A Message from Len Strickler:
Over the course of my career, I have learned the value of always putting the client first. I train my teams to have a servanthood attitude, and emphasize the importance of operating with honesty and integrity above all else.
I have found success in making a positive impact on clients’ lives by conducting business in a profitable manner, while making the service offering or transaction a “win-win” for all parties involved. As part of the executive team at Centura Software, we were very fortunate to take the stock from $1.18 to over $18.00 in little over a year. During that time, I experienced that the stock market is overrated and the “financial wizards” have us conditioned to believe a few myths, which simply are not true.
Myth One – The stock market outperforms everything. This is just not accurate. If you opened a CD in 1998 with $100K, earning 3%, and left it alone until 2015, it would have outperformed the market 10 times. During that timeframe, the S&P 500 lost 40-50%, not once, but twice! Now imagine if you were 70 years old at the time, and you’d be in real trouble.
Myth Two – Safety thru diversification. You’ve probably heard, “Take your money and put in bonds, mutual funds, stocks and spread it out over many different market vehicles.” However, as long as your money is tied to the market, it’s all exposed to risk. So, in other words, you will lose money in 10 places, instead of one.
Myth Three – One size fits all. Stocks and Bonds, mutual funds are NOT the answer for everything.
Myth Four – Paying fees is normal. The belief of, “In order to make money, I have to pay money.” So, if market goes down and you lose 40%-50% (as many people did in 1999 and 2008) do you still owe your broker a commission? You bet! How about this? “I will pay only when you make me money.” Isn’t that their job?
Myth Five – Everyone loses money sometimes. I was told, “Len; you know I have clients who have lost way more than you did.” WOW, that makes me feel really good. It’s like the old analogy: If everyone is going jump off a bridge, will you follow? This is YOUR hard earned money and THEY think it’s a game, because THEY get paid, whether you gain or lose.
After personally experiencing major loses in 2000-2001, and then again in 2008, I formed LS Consulting/Financial Group to assist my family, personal friends, and clients in building consistent, safe, and reliable, long-term income plans.
